Data acquisition

Event-related fMRI experiments with psychiatric patients and with healthy controls.

Block-design fMRI experiments with psychiatric patients and with healthy controls.

Perfusion based fMRI experiements (CASL and PASL) investiganting resting metabolism of psychiatric patients and with healthy controls.

Perfusion based event-related fMRI experimets (CASL and PASL) with more than 2 stimulus conditions with psychiatric patients and with healthy controls: allowing i) the localization of brain region activated by each of the stimulus condition and ii) the reconstruction of the hemodynamic response function associated with each individual stimulus condition.

Diffusion Tensor Imaging (DTI) experiments with 6, 42 and 46 Gradient directions with image resolution down to 2 mm (isovoxel). Cardiac-gated image acquisition mode.

High resolution anatomical image acquisition for subsequent voxel-based morphometry investigation.

Application of all these modalities within the same session in order to i) maximize the neurophysiological information, ii) minimize the total acquisition time and iii) optimize the comfortableness for the patients and for the controls.

Reconstruction of invariant indices for the description of white matter structural patterns. (i.e. fractional anisotropy, relative anisotropy, intervoxel coherence (or Latice index), reconstruction of linear- planar and spherical shape indices.

Voxel-based morphometry and volumetric investigation.

Deconvolution of the hemodynamic response function using two-gamma model function or "Boynton" model function.

Deconvolution of the hemodynamic response function using finite impulse response (FIR) model or with "fourier-sets" basis functions.

Statistical Analysis

First steps of statistical analysis include the Levene's test to test the homogeneity of variances.

General linear Model Analysis of the residuals to ascertain the assumption Gaussianity performed with the Shapiro-Wilk test.

Random-Effects (RFX) analysis of contrast images of each individual subject to allow inference about the population from which the subjects were drawn.
